At AAPT, we have our own custom-built nationwide network. This means AAPT's customers enjoy the speed and reliability of a direct link into an Internet Network. AAPT's products run on an end-to-end Cisco Powered Network, meeting stringent criteria for quality of service and support.

Accessibility
AAPT has Points of Presence (PoPs) all over Australia. Major points of presence are available in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Canberra, Hobart, Perth and Brisbane. AAPT also has PoPs in major metropolitan centres. These include PoPs in Geelong, Newcastle, Wollongong and the Gold Coast.
Delivering more traffic locally also reduces the demand on our overseas links, which provides better service and keeps costs down for both our customers and AAPT.

Speed
Independent surveys consistently rate the AAPT Network as one of the fastest in Australia, which saves your business time and money.

AAPT has excellent international connectivity with two 1 Gigabit connections to the Southern Cross Cable. This cable provides AAPT with high speed direct access to the US and allows for significant growth in traffic over the next few years. In addition, AAPT maintains two 155 megabit per second fibre optic links out of both Melbourne and Sydney. These services connect to Telstra Internet Services' international links.

Reliability and Redundancy
The AAPT Network is designed to keep working. It offers full network redundancy, which means, in the unlikely event a link should fail, the network can automatically re-route traffic to maintain service. For physical reliability, network components are housed in a stable and secure environment at AAPT exchanges.

Network Monitoring
AAPT monitors its network and systems 24 hours a day. Should any problem arise, an on-duty network or systems engineer is paged automatically and attends to the problem immediately.
Every day the AAPT technical managers and network engineers receive an e-mail summary of round trip times and packet loss for every national network circuit over the previous 24 hours. They analyse this to plan for required network upgrades.

Network Maintenance
AAPT conducts regular maintenance and service upgrades to ensure our quality services remain reliable.

Scheduled network maintenance is conducted on Mondays and systems maintenance is scheduled on Wednesdays. To minimise disruption to our customers we aim to begin work at 7:00am and complete work well before 9:00am, depending on the availability of any necessary third party support. Most work can be completed in much less than an hour but occasionally more significant work may take longer. If necessary, work is scheduled overnight to avoid disruption to customers

Point of Presence Environment
Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) services are installed at all of our main locations. The UPS services offer sufficient service continuity to cater for most circumstances. Diesel generators provide further backup to protect against severe power failure.
